About Moi
My Name is Brittany, and I'm 23yrs old. I was diagnosed with Lupus when I was 15, and then diagnosed with RA, when I was 18. I also got married when I was 18, and I'm enjoying my happily ever after with my hubby! When I got married, I was slim and trim...But not for long. After getting married, I started to gain a LOT of weight! In 1yr, I gained 50lbs! Finally, I went to the Doctor, where I discovered I have low thyroid. After being put on medicine, my weight gain slowed down, although over the next 3yrs, I gained an additional 26lbs. When I was 20yrs old, I got yet another diagnoses of Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome. That's 4 diagnoses in a 5yr period, if you lost count. They all effect my weight, in one way or another. Add on top of that, my love affair with food, and every 1 of those 76lbs gained was accounted for. Being 76lbs over weight is unhealthy for anyone, but it was especially unhealthy for me, and my health issues. Since starting this blog, in Jan-2010, I have lost 40lbs! I'm a new, slimmer, and healthier me! Before losing weight, I was told I needed knee replacements. Losing weight was the ONLY tool I had to help me hold off on that life changing surgery. Since losing 40lbs, my knees have never felt better! My husband and I are also trying to start a family, but my PCOS was not going to make it as easy as 1,2,3, as I didn't have periods on my own. My doctor had told me if I wanted a baby, I HAD to lose weight. Since losing 40lbs, I've had regular cycles for the first time in my life! Which is very important when trying to have a baby ;) This journey of mine is more than me simply wanting to wear skinny jeans. It has been a quest to becoming :Deliciously Healthy, so ALL of my dreams can come true! I'm almost half way there! With each new day, I get closer and closer to my goal of 120lbs, and becoming :Deliciously Healthy!

Deliciously Healthy Road Trip

We're leaving in a few days for our family reunion!

The family reunion is in Driggs Idaho. I think it's about an 8 hour drive from Colorado.

I absolutely LOVE taking road trips!
I love being in the car with my husband and family, and all the laughing and playing around that goes on, on the open road. I love the music, and the scenery. I love the excitement, and counting down the miles left until you get to your destination!
One of the biggest things I used to love about road trips, was the food! I loved going to the store, and stalking up on lots and lots of snacks! I loved going into the gas stations, on a hunt to see what goodies I could find (it would seriously excite me). And I absolutely loved eating fast food for breakfast, lunch and dinner!
My goodness that's a lot of unhealthiness!

Eating those things hardly sound fun to me anymore
(high 5 to me;)
It gives me a tummy ache just thinking about it!

This road trip is going to be completely different from all the road trips I've taken!
It's going to be deliciously healthy!

I went to the store to load up on snacks, as I usually do before a road trip, but this time the hunt was on for yummy, light, healthy snacks!
Here's what I came up with :
  • Grapes
  • Cherries
  • Carrots and snap peas
  • WW string cheese
  • Berry granola bars
  • Wheat Thins
  • And water to fill up my water bottle!
I think I'm going to pick up 1 or 2 more things.

What's your favorite part about road trips?
What do you like to bring on a road trip?

When we stop for fast food, I'm going to get a fruit parfait at either McDonald's or Chick-Fil-A for breakfast, and a salad or wrap for lunch at wherever we stop at.

I'm not sure how healthy I'm going to be able to eat while I'm there. I'm going to put a lot of my focus on my portions, like not eating my weight in my dad's mac-n-cheese :) Other then that, I'm going to make healthy meals when I can, drink lots of water, and it's my goal to go on a little hike each morning with the hubs!

I feel good about this.
Real good :D

Those snacks look delicious, and I'm sure they'll pack just enough natural sweetness and/or crunch to keep the car munchies at bay.

It's strange, I know, but I've taken very few true road trips as an adult. I think I need to change that - maybe next summer I'll plan a long drive down the CA coast or something.

Have fun!

Fabulous munchies... and I really XOX your bag!
Don't forget peppermint gum because car trips don't always have to mean eating. Even lighter foods will eventually catch up with us. When everyone else is eating chips or something, pop in some gum and any cravings you might be having will disappear!
Have a fab trip!

Thanks for the blog award!

Great job on your loss this week! I know for me mac and cheese is a HUGE weakness. I could seriously eat it for every meal if it wasn't so unhealthy! LOL

I always print out the nutritional information for any fast-food places we might stop, so I can be sure I know exactly how many calories I'm eating! I also love taking one mini peppermint patty so that if I get a chocolate craving while I'm in the gas station, I can just treat myself to that when I get back into the car.

Congrats on the loss!! And thanks for the blog award!!

Awesome on another pound lost Brittany. Snacks for the road, oh how I love some small foods on the road; nuts, grapes, protein bars. I only keep a couple items close by where I am sitting, the rest further back. If i dont then I risk eating too many of even the little things too fast. Lame huh... but if I want more and convionce myself I need more, I have to pull over to get it. Usually works. Usually :-)

Don't forget about Subway's breakfast sandwich. The hubby and I travel quite a bit during the summer, and those little sandwiches have saved my breakfast many times. When everyone else is havng a breakfast sandwich, sometime a yogurt just won't do for me...and the Subway Western Egg white english muffin is yummy, but not calorie and fat heave :)

Also, if you are bringing a cooler, what about boiling a few eggs. (If you like eggs.) The punch of protein can really help me if I am super hungry.

Hope you have a great time!

Girl...me too! I used to love eating as many fast food meals as possible. Now, I, too, hate that idea. I love rice cakes and natural peanut butter. I also like triscuits and laughing cow cheese. YUMMY!! Anyways...I know that you will do well on vacation. Your plan for vacation is also my plan for vacation, minus the hiking...I will be at the beach!! Congrats on 167!!!

Your snacks actually sound good! I love road trips too! My family lives 8 hrs away and in the past, we have eaten our entire way through our trip. Ice Cream, gummy bears, burgers, soda, chips, etc. When we finally arrive...we are not feeling so good! We're trying to be healthier as a family...I like your idea of stocking up ahead of time and being prepared. Found you over on For Real This Time...also a new follower!

You ROCK!! I'm so glad you found me. ;0)

Those are the perfect things I take with me on the road too. I love the Southwest Grilled Chicken Salad at McD's. I only use 1/2 the dressing. 290 calories!

I also insist on an XL drink filled with fountain water. Other than that, I've found that you're right on the money. Portion control works very well when the only options aren't great ones. Good luck!

You're gonna rock this and still post a loss!
