When I was a kid, I thought eggnog was the grossest thing ever. I thought adults were insane for drinking it. Then, when I was older, a friend forced me to try it. I should send her a thank you note, because in that moment, I realized that
eggnog is awesome.
A couple days ago, that moment happened, that only comes but once a year. The moment when you're walking down the grocery store isle, and you see that eggnog is back! I love that moment. It's like when you see the 1st Christmas commercial of the season. I thought I'd have to pass on this holiday drink this year. It's so rich and creamy, sure it can't be good for a diet. But, I thought I'd at least stop and admire the assortment of eggnogs. And that's when I saw they had low-fat eggnog."Hmmm. Surely I can have this. But will it taste the same?"
Well, you never know until you try. So in the cart it went, along with my turkey, and other thanksgiving items.
As soon as I got home, I had me a glass. Hoping it would be as good as the regular eggnog, but preparing myself for disappointment.
It tastes exactly the same!
It's still rich, creamy, and taste like the holidays in a cup.
Only it has 55% less fat, and 32% fewer calories.
How do I know this?
Because it says so right on the carton. So convenient.
I put a little low-fat whipped cream in mine, because it's delicious. And it goes perfectly with a pumpkin cinnamon roll cupcake. I'm just sayin'.
What's the conclusion of this post?
The cool kids are drinking low-fat eggnog this year ;D
Are you an eggnog person?

Ya know, I only had eggnog a few times. And I believe I liked it. Actually if my memory serves me I think tried a silk soymilk kind that I really liked.
Yayyy for less calories & fat.
Be well.
-A-
it does exist!

Lol! Thanks!
I am NOT an eggnog person. Ewwwwwwwwwwwwww!!!
I <3 eggnog so I would be a little skeptical of going 'light' But if you say that it's just as good, maybe I'll have to buy some to give it a try. =D
The only way I've ever been able to drink egg nog is if I cut it in half with water...Odd I know. Wonder if that cuts the calories though? lol
Eggnog is one of those things I've never tasted and can't imagine what it tastes like. I wish I could have a virtual sip right now!
I remember the first time I tried avacado. I thought you would be insane to like that.... I LOVE it as an adult. LOVE.
I have always hated eggnog, but I haven't tried it again in maybe 15+ years. Perhaps I will take a lesson from you and try it this year and see if adult Patty's tastes have changed. Wish me luck! LOL!
I've never tried it because I'm scared it's going to make me puke, lol.
I used to hate eggnog too, but hubby showed me how delicious it is! Funny, because yesterday hubby called me and said, "You're never going to guess what I did." He was feeling guilty because he bought 12 oz. of egg nog and drank the whole thing without looking at the calories until he was done and was shocked to see it was 800 calories for that little bit!! We usually mix 1/2 egg nog and 1/2 milk so that helps a bit. But I will have to try the light stuff!
Mmmm, I love eggnog, too. And I love your hair!
I ADORE eggnog! It is not Christmas unless I have at least one tiny glass :) Hope I can find this lower calorie/fat version near me :)
oh em gee! LOL I'm an exactly the same way! DH will point out that eggnog is in the stores now and I pretty much go crazy! I didn't think I'd be able to have any either this year, but I actually found a soy milk eggnog. It takes exactly the same, but isn't as thick as regular eggnog! Mmmmm....now I want some!! :-)
P.S. I was so excited to read your post when I saw the picture of eggnog! LOL
I never liked eggnog as a child then I tried it at a party with Hennessey and LOVED it. Maybe it was the Hennessey? ;) No seriously tho, I do like Egg Nog as an adult now!
I love homemade eggnog, but for some reason the idea of drinking eggnog that comes out of a carton just wigs me out. I think it may have something to do with the fact that when I was in college a big cup of "Egg McNogg" went bad in our little dorms fridge. I haven't gotten over it, apparently. =)
I love the 'light eggnog' too!! I tried the fat free one a few years back after my WW leader recommended it. That I must say was a big yuck!! But the light stuff is really good!!
It's always a big score when you find that you can still enjoy an old favorite without guilt!!
diane :)
low fat egg nog that's pretty much amazing! I will definitely have to keep an eye out for this! Yum!
xo
I don't want to start somethin' but have you ever made pancakes with egg nog? Just replace the milk/water and voila, you've got some awesome pancakes!
I heart egg nog too!
I'm like the commenter above: I love homemade eggnog but have never liked it from a carton and actually don't bother trying to find one from a ccarton I do like. I'm happy with a glass of the one my mom makes every Christmas morning, it's a special tradition. She makes it with ice cream and I don't know what else. As a kid I hated it b/c they usually add brandy or something like that (and I still hate it that way), but she makes mine alcohol-free.
Oh I am totally an Eggnog person. It's funny how you either love it or hate it, there's really no middle ground! I haven't tried it with whipped cream before; I'll have to try that at Christmas :)
