About Moi
My Name is Brittany, and I'm 23yrs old. I was diagnosed with Lupus when I was 15, and then diagnosed with RA, when I was 18. I also got married when I was 18, and I'm enjoying my happily ever after with my hubby! When I got married, I was slim and trim...But not for long. After getting married, I started to gain a LOT of weight! In 1yr, I gained 50lbs! Finally, I went to the Doctor, where I discovered I have low thyroid. After being put on medicine, my weight gain slowed down, although over the next 3yrs, I gained an additional 26lbs. When I was 20yrs old, I got yet another diagnoses of Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome. That's 4 diagnoses in a 5yr period, if you lost count. They all effect my weight, in one way or another. Add on top of that, my love affair with food, and every 1 of those 76lbs gained was accounted for. Being 76lbs over weight is unhealthy for anyone, but it was especially unhealthy for me, and my health issues. Since starting this blog, in Jan-2010, I have lost 40lbs! I'm a new, slimmer, and healthier me! Before losing weight, I was told I needed knee replacements. Losing weight was the ONLY tool I had to help me hold off on that life changing surgery. Since losing 40lbs, my knees have never felt better! My husband and I are also trying to start a family, but my PCOS was not going to make it as easy as 1,2,3, as I didn't have periods on my own. My doctor had told me if I wanted a baby, I HAD to lose weight. Since losing 40lbs, I've had regular cycles for the first time in my life! Which is very important when trying to have a baby ;) This journey of mine is more than me simply wanting to wear skinny jeans. It has been a quest to becoming :Deliciously Healthy, so ALL of my dreams can come true! I'm almost half way there! With each new day, I get closer and closer to my goal of 120lbs, and becoming :Deliciously Healthy!

Some new healthy things I've been trying

The past couple days have been good, healthy, low glycemicy type of days. And no- "glycemicy" is not a word.

My main focus has been on
staying away from processed carbohydrates
. It's actually been fairly easy. I have become label reading obsessed. And it's actually kinda fun. Give me a second to get over the fact that I just said that.

Here are a few new things I've tried:

Almond milk:By itself- no thank you.
In my cereal- yes please!
Fage yogurt with cherry:
With the Cherry it's delicious... but when that runs out.... no freakin' way. Gag.

Whole wheat tortillas:
I tried these a few years ago, and thought they were gross. But since my regular tortillas have processed carbohydrates in them, I reluctantly bought these again. They must have changed their recipe, because they were delish! It made for a very tasty turkey burrito tonight for dinner.
MMM...Let's go ahead and get the elephant out of the room- yes, I ate my dinner tonight on a paper towel, because all my plates were in the sink, dirty. My name is Brittany, and I'm a slacker. It's a miracle I even made dinner.

So far, so good.
Tomorrow morning I'm going to try a green monster smoothie for the first time.

Monday I have an appointment with my
fertility specialist
. Last time she saw me I was 206 pounds. I'm excited to show her my new healthy lifestyle, and that I actually followed her orders, and lost weight! I'm also excited to get put on fertility meds.

Wish me luck!

I don't like the fage yogurt plain either. It taste like i'm eating spoons full of sour cream!

Good luck with the fertility specialist!!

You are doing great! I like the yogurt as a dip or mayo replacement; I add spinach and seasonings and use cucumbers or homemade tortilla chips for dipping (I buy the low carb ones too). Atkins/South Beach will have lots of recipes you can choose from. We both have doctor appointments Monday- good luck with yours.

Greek yogurt grosses me out too. I think if I used it as sour cream substitute it might be okay, but to eat on its own, eeewwwwww...

I have been hesitant to try Almond Milk. Maybe I will give it a try in my cereal next time I see it on sale.

Your doctor will be so proud of you and I wish you best best best at your appointment.

Good to know that those wraps are delish I always look at them when I am in the store. So I will most definitely pick them up next time. My friend in college drank soy milk all the time. I already don`t drink milk and only put a splash in my cereal, but I cannot bring myself to drink soy for some reason. I need to give up some processed foods.

You're excited now about fertility meds now, but just wait till you try them! They're a blast!! (sarcasm?) :0) I hope you won't need them for long!!

The plain fage is a great sour cream substitute in most if not all recipes. You can also use it as a mayo substitute in some recipes, but the only way that I'll eat it by itself is if it's vanilla or something like that. Oh, and the almond milk in vanilla is also good if you want to drink it by itself or add a little vanilla flavor to your cereal in the mornings. The green smoothies are fabulous with vanilla almond milk, a banana, and lots of blueberries.

GOOD LUCK!!

Try adding a bit of honey to the fage plain yogurt. That's how I like it! :)

I've fallen in love with almond milk, too. Silk has a delicious dark chocolate almond milk that is a nice treat to get every so often. I've been enjoying it this week!

Good luck with the fertility specialist! :-)

I found that staying away from processed foods is the worst. I've been on the same track but can't keep weight off. I've had my thyroid tested many times but they can't find anything. We'll have to check on that one again ;)

Those picks that you have look great. Yogurt is definitely a great way to start and so is Silk. My little bro loves it. I'm an Almond Milk kind of girl but I'll have to give this a try again sometime soon to see if my taste buds have changed.

Don't feel too bad about the paper towel, I went out and bought a box of plastic spoons because mine were also in the sink , dirty. It happens.

I definitely need some mix-ins to go with my plain greek yogurt. Otherwise, it's just too much.

On the flip side, it's nice to have something in the fridge that can double as breakfast or sour cream. You know?

I hope you had a good appointment with the fertility specialist, lady! You deserve some good news!
