About Moi
My Name is Brittany, and I'm 23yrs old. I was diagnosed with Lupus when I was 15, and then diagnosed with RA, when I was 18. I also got married when I was 18, and I'm enjoying my happily ever after with my hubby! When I got married, I was slim and trim...But not for long. After getting married, I started to gain a LOT of weight! In 1yr, I gained 50lbs! Finally, I went to the Doctor, where I discovered I have low thyroid. After being put on medicine, my weight gain slowed down, although over the next 3yrs, I gained an additional 26lbs. When I was 20yrs old, I got yet another diagnoses of Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome. That's 4 diagnoses in a 5yr period, if you lost count. They all effect my weight, in one way or another. Add on top of that, my love affair with food, and every 1 of those 76lbs gained was accounted for. Being 76lbs over weight is unhealthy for anyone, but it was especially unhealthy for me, and my health issues. Since starting this blog, in Jan-2010, I have lost 40lbs! I'm a new, slimmer, and healthier me! Before losing weight, I was told I needed knee replacements. Losing weight was the ONLY tool I had to help me hold off on that life changing surgery. Since losing 40lbs, my knees have never felt better! My husband and I are also trying to start a family, but my PCOS was not going to make it as easy as 1,2,3, as I didn't have periods on my own. My doctor had told me if I wanted a baby, I HAD to lose weight. Since losing 40lbs, I've had regular cycles for the first time in my life! Which is very important when trying to have a baby ;) This journey of mine is more than me simply wanting to wear skinny jeans. It has been a quest to becoming :Deliciously Healthy, so ALL of my dreams can come true! I'm almost half way there! With each new day, I get closer and closer to my goal of 120lbs, and becoming :Deliciously Healthy!

Blog shy

Yes. It has been 2 weeks since I last blogged.
I've had lots to say, over the past 2 weeks, but every time I would sit down to write a post, I would get.... shy. Blogging made me nervous all of a sudden. It was seriously weird.

But I'm back.
Hello world.

Here's just a few random things from the past 2 weeks:

I went to whole foods for the first time:I have been on this weight loss journey for over a year, and I had never gone to a whole foods. I don't believe it myself.

I've been trying some new, clean and healthy products, as a result of my recent trip to Whole Foods:

Cinnamon raisin bagels:Love.

All different kinds of butters: Dislike all of the above.

All natural chocolate chip cookies: Not the best I've ever had, but it's nice to have something chocolaty and "clean" in the freezer, for when I turn into the cookie monster.

Luna bars:
Love. The only problem is, so does my husband. Doesn't he see the label? Women only! ;)

I have developed a love/hate relationship with ovulation tests:Every morning I get a sense of rejection/failure when a little stick tells me I'm not ovulating.
I have yet to see a positive test. My fertility Doctor told me that my PCOS can prevent these tests from working right, but that she still wanted me to take them.
I think I may have ovulated this month, as I had all the "signs" THIS article pointed out.
How many sticks does a girl have to pee on to get pregnant?

I bought this, Clean Eating cook book:
I heart this book. Not only does it give you lots of clean eating recipes, including desserts (none of which I have tried, because I am currently too lazy to bake), it's also a whole guide on how to eat clean. Why I didn't buy a clean eating book from the get go, is beyond me.

And I have developed a small crush on 50 Cent:
That is all.

Do you ever get blog shy?
What healthy foods are you currently loving?

I've heard that Almond butter is amazing! I have never tried it, but what didn't you like about it? Also, have you tried tofu shirataki noodles (a la Hungry-Girl)? I am way scared to try them but would love a no carb noodle option because spaghetti squash just isn't it for me!

YES! I have...and felt like there were times when I just needed to take a fb break too! I think its good to take a break now and then!

sorry no positive results yet. Fingers crossed for you!

so you didn't like any of the butters? I am not a crazy pb person...so I would take or leave them. But the burts bees? I hope you didn't dislike that too...cuz THAT is my ultimate fav lip balm. Currently loving the acai berry flavor...rejuvenating, I think its called!

Meredith- It just isn't Peanut Butter. I heart PB, so I think it may just take me a little while to get used to it :) I haven't tried those noodles... I'll keep my eye out for them.

Renee- I'm addicted to burts bees! I haven't put it down since I bought it, and my lips are so soft!

I found that tracking my waking temperature was much more accurate then the ovulation tests and that is free! Good luck! As far as eating healthy I love oatmeal. And I am baking way too much. I wish you lived close and I'd send some over too you. Peanut butter is also a favorite of mine and I've been eating a very thin layer on graham crackers lately. Delicious!!!

Missed you Brittany! I just went by the signs of ovulation, rather than taking the tests or my temperature. I was spending was too much $ on the ovulation kits and never saw a change in my temperature.

me too!!! I've been in a blogging blah mood for the past 2 weeks, I just haven't felt the urge to write : / but I'm back reading and socializng! : ) you didn't like the justin's nt butters!? I have been searching high and low to find some and the only place I can find it is on Amazon. I don't want to commit to a case without trying.

Does it taste anything like Nutella? I'm a Nutella freak and I'm trying to find a healthier alternative. Welcome back!!!

Lots of yummy eats!!!! I love the Whole foods bag too. I'm no expert, but I don't it's peeing on the stick that gets you pregnant! LOL!!!!!

Josie- No. I'm a nutella freak too, and I was hoping this was a healthy alternative, but it tastes nothing like Nutella.

I love the almond butter but honestly, I can't have it or PB in the house. They call my name! We don't have a Whole Foods but I have been to a small one and when I visit DD in Austin, she is taking me there- I guess Austin was where they started? As for store bought cookies UGH! I'd keep a little frozen dough in a ziplock bag if I craved it and wasn't dieting. I'm a snob when it comes to baking- only homemade for me. When I was trying to get pregnant with Abigail, I discovered I ovulated very early in my cycle. I wish those tests were available then.

Whole Foods is great but I just can't bring myself to spend $4 on an avocado! I am seriously interested in clean eating as well- would love to hear how it's going for you!

You are the first blogger I have found talking about Whole Foods, everyone talks about Trader Joe's, I do not have a Trader Joe within 500 miles but fixing to drive over an hour to a Whole Foods. No one can give me an idea on the best finds at Whole Foods, what do you think are some good ones? Thanks

:Deliciously Healthy said...

Kelly- we don't have a trader joe's either. I've only been to whole foods once, but so far I love the fact that they have lots of organic whole wheat products, since I'm staying away from white flour. The first time I went I mostly just walked around, and took everything in :) I'll do a future blog post on my favorite things at whole foods, once I know what they are :)

For the "Nutella freaks" out there: nutella is basically hazelnuts and chocolate, so if you manage to find hazelnut butter, that might be more similar. Otherwise, put hazelnuts and cocoa powder in a food processor and make your own! Sure, it isn't the same, and it's still calorie-dense, but at least you can avoid sugar and additives

:Deliciously Healthy said...

Thank you for the tip, Eleonora :D

Glad you're back. It sounds like you've been keeping busy! Glad you went to Whole Foods, just for the experience, if nothing else.

Welcome back to the blog-world, lady! I know that I live for oats at breakfast time - they're a perfect (healthy/unprocessed) base for whatever toppings you're craving.

p.s. As hard as I try, I love natural peanut butter, but just can't get on-board with the almond butter thing.
